Discover the quiet beauty of southern Minnesota with a self-guided paddle along the Cedar River’s scenic South Route, just south of Austin. This laid-back stretch of river winds through gentle bends, wooded banks, and open countryside, offering a peaceful float perfect for beginners, families, or anyone looking to unwind on the water.

Along the way, paddlers will enjoy plenty of wildlife and natural beauty including great blue heron, bald eagles, turtles, ducks, and deer. This scenic section provides a relaxing paddle and a wonderful opportunity to experience local wildlife up close.

Whether you're out for a solo escape or a group adventure, this route is all about easy paddling, great views, and a little glimpse into the past. Most paddlers complete the journey in 1-2 hours, depending on water flow. Times are estimates. If you paddle less or take breaks, your trip will take longer. River levels can also impact timing.

Trip Details: 

Start Point: Driesner Park at The Point

End Point: Riverwood Landing

Route Length: 4.7 miles

Age Requirement:  Paddlers must be at least 9 years old to paddle a kayak on their own.
For tandem kayaks/canoes, the second passenger may be as young as 4 years old, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Weight Limit: dependent upon watercraft rented

Group Rentals: At this time, we can accommodate groups of up to 8 kayaks. We’re a small operation with limited equipment, and this helps us ensure great service for all paddlers, however if you have a larger group, we may be able to accommodate depending on the date, please call us to discuss.

When you are finished with your paddling, please pull your equipment up on the shore and ensure it is far enough up on the bank/shore so it doesn’t float away.

Please note: Paddlers are responsible for getting themselves to and from the designated launch and take-out points. Equipment transportation is handled by us.
