This 4-mile paddle may wind right through town—but you’d never know it. The North Route of the Cedar River offers a peaceful escape that winds quietly through Austin. As you float through shaded bends and quiet stretches, you'll catch glimpses of Austin from a view most never get to see—a serene, tucked-away view that feels miles from everyday life.

This self-guided route takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete at a relaxed pace, making it perfect for beginners, families, or anyone looking to unwind on the water without committing to a full-day float.

Due to ongoing bridge construction, a portion of the North Route is currently closed to paddlers. For your safety, we’ve temporarily modified the route to a new take-out location just upstream of the closure. The adjusted route is slightly shorter, but still offers the same peaceful views and hidden river charm.

Trip Details: 

Start Point: Ramsey Dam Lower Boat Landing

End Point: Wolf Creek Landing at Wildwood Park

Route Length: 3.6 miles (adjusted)

Age Requirement:  Paddlers must be at least 9 years old to paddle a kayak on their own.
For tandem kayaks, the second passenger may be as young as 4 years old, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Weight Limit: 10 Foot Kayak: 250 lb
Group Rentals: At this time, we can accommodate groups of up to 6 kayaks. We’re a small operation with limited equipment, and this helps us ensure great service for all paddlers.

When you are finished with your paddling, please pull your kayak up on the shore and ensure it is far enough up on the bank/shore so it doesn’t float away.

Please note: Paddlers are responsible for getting themselves to and from the designated launch and take-out points. Equipment transportation is handled by us.
